MED: Marine Equipment Directive

Directive 2014/90/EU on marine equipment placed on board EU-flagged ships and its conformity with international requirements.

The Marine Equipment Directive (MED, 2014/90/EU) requires equipment on EU-flagged ships to meet the requirements of international conventions such as SOLAS. Products in its scope carry the wheel mark after assessment by a notified body.

Whether a product falls under the MED depends on its definition. A product without an MED certificate may not be called "MED approved".
