What is ballistic glass?

Security glazing designed against bullet threats, built by laminating several glass plies with polymer interlayers and, where required, polycarbonate.

Which standards do projects refer to?

Depending on the project, the protection requirement may be defined by a standard such as EN 1063, UL 752, STANAG 4569 or NIJ. Conformity is demonstrated per project, with test documentation from accredited laboratories where required; standards are not presented as a company certification.

What do S and NS mean in EN 1063?

NS (no splinters) means no fragments were released from the rear face after firing; S (splinters) means fragments were released. NS is usually preferred where people are behind the glass.

What does the polycarbonate layer add?

A polycarbonate layer on the protected side helps prevent glass spall from the inner face and, depending on the build, can offer a weight advantage over all-glass builds.

How are curved ballistic glass requests evaluated?

For curved forms such as windscreens and side windows, geometry, optical requirements and mounting details are defined with the customer from a drawing or template; feasibility is evaluated per project.

How are heated glazing requests handled?

Where fogging or icing is a risk, the need for concealed heating is evaluated within the project together with conditions of use, power supply and visibility requirements.

How is test documentation shared?

Test documentation showing conformity to a standard is shared within the scope of the relevant project, after evaluation against confidentiality obligations and the consent of the parties involved.

What is needed for a technical evaluation?

Application, required protection level or standard class, dimensions and form, any drawing or template, quantity, target date and extras such as heating or screen printing. Applications are accepted through written channels.

How are marine glazing requests evaluated?

Requests for flat or curved glazing, bridge windows, portholes and door glass for yachts and ships are addressed per project together with visibility, weather and mounting requirements. Standards such as ISO 614 and ISO 3434 may be relevant.
